What a bittersweet week for the SBIM crew lots of excitement and cause for celebration but also our last days together until level 5 ends.

On Wednesday night we had our juvenile Halloween party which will be our last night of training for a few weeks. We were very impressed with the Halloween creativity, the costumes were aplenty and not a lot of running was done.

We started with a spooky walk of the pond with a few strange creatures lurking to scare us followed by our Halloween parade on the track and some chocolate from Hilda’s Coffee House. All the kids were very impressive with their outfits but on the night, Liam, Juliette and Ethan were crowned Best Dressed by the Coaches.

We’ve had a great run with 10 weeks of juvenile training, we are very impressed with their dedication and hard work during this time. Whilst we could continue to train, we want to support efforts nationwide to slow the spread of the virus so will be taking a break for the coming weeks. Massive shout out to our coaches for their commitment to the kids and thank you to the parents for their support since we started back. We look forward to seeing you all again soon!

This weekend should have been the Dublin Marathon, normally a big weekend for the SBIM seniors. Instead the event moved virtual with 10k, Half Marathon and Full marathon options. We had hoped to take part together but level 5 had other plans for us. We are a resilient bunch and instead over 20 members took to the streets to take part.

Congratulations to Alison, Kevin, Michael, Michele and Slawek who completed the full marathon distance. Sticking within a 5km radius, you will have seen them circling around proudly in their green vests.

Michael completed in 4:14, Kevin 4:16 and Slawek 4:19, Alison and Michele 5:30. Support was on hand from Anna, Gillian, John and Peter who kept the crew company on their journey. Well done guys, amazing achievement to complete a marathon and even more so without the crowds for support.

Aoife and Rose took on the kilomarathon distance 26.2 kilometres completing in 2:32. Well done ladies, nice to push the boundaries on distance.

For the Half Marathon we had –
Stan 1:38
Tiernan 1:57
Justin 2:02
Donna 2:05
Jacqueline 2:05
Teresa 2:05
Geraldine 2:09
Kathleen 2:09

Congratulations guys, a half marathon is always a challenging distance.

For the 10k we had Carmel, David, Gian, Lisa, Melissa and Zydrune. Well done guys
Thanks to all our supporters, lots of well wishes were exchanged during the week and on the day we had Sam cycling the route, Alison and Michele at the water station and Anna, Tommy and Wioletta waiting for us to finish at the track.

A huge well done to everyone who took part. We look forward to when we can be together again.

We saw lots of Arklow folk along our journeys this week and new members are always welcome so get in touch if you would like more information on becoming part of the SBIM crew!
