For St Benedict Inbhear Mór AC, being part of the local community is one of our important objectives and we believe strongly in supporting local charity groups as much as we can.
We are delighted to be launching The SBIM AC January 2021 Challenge. The aim of the challenge is to encourage participants to exercise for 20 days in January for 21 minutes (2021). There is an optional donation of €20 to charity.
January can be a difficult month for many. We aim to encourage people to get out into the fresh air, meet with friends or family (within the Covid restrictions) and get some exercise along the way. Hopefully this will help by benefiting both our physical and mental health.
People can run, walk, jog, cycle, swim or take part in a fitness class. Whichever suits you best. Activities can be completed in any combination you prefer. Exercise can be done at a time, location and pace that suits your own needs. Participation is open to all members of the community, not just club members.
The first January challenge was held last year in 2020 and raised €1,200 for Arklow Samaritans. The feedback and positivity generated from the challenge was amazing. This will now firmly be an annual event for our club and the local community.
For 2021 we are looking to be bigger and better. Once again we hope to generate some much needed funds for a great local charity. Our chosen charity partner for 2021 is Arklow Cancer Support. This vital charity offer free practical and emotional support to those who find themselves affected by a cancer diagnosis. They rely solely on volunteers, donations, and fundraising events from the community to continue their services.
To join in the the challenge, you can make your optional donation on iDonate here. Donations can be made before during or after you take part. Head over to Facebook and join in our group here for motivational support to keep you going during the month.
As January ends on a weekend we also plan to hold a virtual event to end the challenge. Participants in our ‘Duck Dash 5k/2k’ will receive a fun Duck Dash medal to celebrate. All proceeds from the event go to Arklow Cancer Support. To register for the ‘Duck Dash 5k/2k’ click here.
We look forward to hearing all the stories of those who participate and hope to get great support for Arklow Cancer Support.
